THE HISTORY OF OUR NAME:
MAMA~SAN
| mäm sän | noun (in japan & the far east)
a woman in a position of authority, especially one whom is in charge of a Geisha House, a bar or a "house of ill repute"
ORIGIN; Japanese, from mama 'mother' + san, an honorific title traditionaly used as a mark of politeness & decorum.
THe honest history of our name:
One afternoon after too many wines in the Bondi sun, Gemma told Adam how she left Taiwan for Japan at the age of 17 & worked at a Tokyo bar controlled by The Yakuza. The Yakuza's Mistress was called 'The Mamasan' and she'd sit up the back of the bar & count the wads of cash from the brothel that she ran upstairs.
"That's our name then" said Adam and together they drank to it!
Tastes as good as it looks. A visually stunning three-story outpost of the famed Bondi institution… a creative mix of pan-Asian dishes, both big & small… the sort of thing that Crown St - has been crying out for...Mamasan is a bloody good restaurant
